FANTASY. This book is bloody and macabre and an excellent, imaginative story that weaves Hansel and Gretel with eight more Grimm fairy tales.

The Misadventures of Max Crumbly: Locker hero by Rachel Renee Russell. This is one of the books where the main character is a bit above the 5th grade level. However, he is also facing the challenge of going into middle school for the first time, something I feel that a lot of 5th graders can sympathize with. Sweet and Correia classified nonfiction writing into 5 categories: Active. Browsable. Traditional. Expository Literature. Narrative. These categories help educators give kids access to the best books for general interest, research, craft moves, and so forth. This book is ESSENTIAL reading for elementary school teachers and librarians.
